The Bumble Berry Honey Blueberry Ale from Fathead's Brewery was an excellent beer. Although very skeptical at first, I was pleasantly surprised by what this beer presented-in appearance, on the nose, and on the palate. I really didn't know what to expect as fruit beers can be hit more miss, but Fathead's crushed this one!
Crisp and golden in color, this beer provided notes of fresh blueberry on the nose. I was transported back to childhood when my mom would make blueberry muffins. The aroma was not overpowering by any means--just enough to let you know that something good was coming your way.
On the palate, the beer offered that pleasant blueberry flavor. It hit me almost immediately, though it settled out midtaste then returned post-taste. Again, it was well balanced between subtle and overpowering--well done there! As I continued to enjoy the beer, I detected a pleasant white bread and crackery malt flavor which was then accompanied with a pleasant sweetness from honey. Yet again, the sweetness was not overpowering, and I feel it paired very well with the blueberries.
Fruit infused beers can be a double-edged sword--they either work really well or they fall utterly short. Fathead's did an amazing job with this beer, providing a fresh and balanced blueberry and honey infused beer. Cheers!
