Name: The Oracle Style: Double IPA / Imperial IPA Brewery: Bell’s Brewery, Comstock MI 10.0% Alc/Vol 90 IBUs
Bell’s Brewery out of Comstock, Michigan provides an excellent take on the Double IPA / Imperial IPA with “The Oracle”. The beer, for a DIPA, was rather tasty. I was very impressed with how different flavors hit the palate throughout the taste. This is significant, as none of the flavors clashed, but rather meshed together in sequence. That is no easy task. The brewer’s at Bell’s have definitely honed their craft, so all credit to them. Well done guys!

At first sight, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful golden-honey color of this brew. It literally reminded me of honey in a glass. The beer poured very easily with a moderate cream-colored head. It was translucent due to a moderate haze from un-filtering. As I enjoyed the drink, there was little to no lacing at all.
On the nose, I experienced floral and and citrus hop aromas. In addition, there was a slight spiciness detected. This was very intriguing as I knew this ‘spiciness’ came from some form of hop-which I couldn’t place but anxiously awaited to taste. I also noticed a subtle malty almost bread-like, aroma.
The taste was very interesting. Immediately, I was hit wit hop-forward flavors, a jolt of bitterness that lingered slightly throughout the taste. However, it was not too over-powering. I was able to taste that bread, biscuit-like malt-flavor mid taste. As this passed, I was hit with another hoppy punch, no doubt from a couple of different hop varieties used in this brew. As I continued to enjoy the glass, I noticed that the bitterness lingered between sips. I also noticed how the beer seemed to take on a deeper richness as the more sips were taken. Though coming it at a strong 90 IBU, the beer was rather easy to drink.
All in all, this is a great beer. What’s more is that it is very well-crafted. The flavors throughout the taste were very enjoyable. Cheers to “The Oracle” and to Bell’s Brewery! #BeerReview #DIPA
