A Visit to Two Tides...

Writer's picture: JoshJosh

A couple of weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to visit Two Tides Brewing in Savannah, Georgia. Thanks to a tip from a friend on Instagram ( Thanks again Laura!), I made a point to hit the brewery while on a brief stop in Savannah. Boy, am I glad that I did!

Two Tides was awesome—from the building and taproom to the brews and the service, this brewery is doing amazing things. And they are just over TWO MONTHS old! Wow!

Two Tides Brewing Company

The brewery sits nestled on DeSoto and 41st Street—just minutes from the squares of downtown Savannah. Consistent with their name is a relaxed beach-like vibe, courtesy of the white brick building, white interior and subway tiles framing the tap system, and open windows and patio. From the moment you walk in the door, you’re invited to relax and enjoy yourself.

As if the vibe of the brewery was not enough, the service makes even the new visitor feel like a regular. The staff was eager to suggest a flight and answer any questions that I had—all while they were setting up for their Grand Opening block party—again, they’re only two months old!

The beer was phenomenal! I love all beer, but I’m an IPA kind of guy, and I love seeing what each brewery does with the style. Two Tides had plenty of them on tap in a variety of different styles and options.

For my flight, I enjoyed Sixfoot, a NEIPA; the Doctor, a Double Dry- Hopped IPA; Hydrus, a Double Dry-Hopped DIPA; and Chromatose, a Blackberry Sour.

I started with Sixfoot, and I’m glad that I did. At, 6.3% ABV, it was a solid New England Style IPA with which to compare the other IPAs too. The beer was light and refreshing with a lingering bitterness, featuring notes of citrus fruit and citrus rind. A solid beach beer indeed!

Coming in at 7.5% ABV, the Doctor was next. Now this was an interesting and incredibly tasty brew—a double dry-hopped IPA brewed with Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic Lupulin Powder. The beer provided a wonderful dryness with notes of tropical fruit. It was incredibly fresh with just a hint of dankiness. I loved this one!

Next up was Hydrus, a double dry-hopped double India Pale Ale. At 8.5% ABV, this beer was heavier than the other IPAs, and I would say it definitely had more of a bite than the other two. This beer had less of a mouthfeel than the others, yet it did have a pleasant bitterness than manifested in tropical and citrus fruit notes. There was a nice ‘resinyness’ here too!

Last, but not least, was Chromatose, a Blackberry Sour Ale brewed with lactose. I saved this beer for last due to the lactic acid, which attributes to the sourness of the beer. Oftentimes, this flavor is strong and lingering, so I didn’t want it to interfere with the other brews. Chromatose was a great sour beer. Hints of tart blackberries, sourness, a slight sweetness, and a slight breadiness post-taste all made this beer great. The addition of the lactose was a notable and well done element here. Lactose, a sugar found in milk, served to soften the beer and really wrap all of the flavors together. I feel this served the beer well, cutting back on some of the harshness of the sour beer, making it very approachable.

I really enjoyed my time at Two Tides. I still am literally blown away that they are just over two months old! My kids loved the visit too--especially the Connect Four game. I look forward to hearing many great things about this brewery in the future, and I can’t wait for my next visit. #Brewery #BreweryFeature #TwoTidesBrewing #Savannah #Georgia
